Breaks

The breaks are comprised of a break group containing break rules. The break rules can be assigned to multiple break groups. Breaks represent both breaks and lunches, paid or unpaid, punched or unpunched.

Break rules are applied to a punched break, if it matches the rules of when the break should be taken..

Break Groups

Break Group ID – an identifier clearly identifies the break group. This is seen in the Break drop-down in the base schedule and employee schedule.

When a Break Group is selected, the Breaks assigned to this group are checked.

Main

Break ID – an identifier for the specific break rule, e.g. 60 Minute Lunch

Break Type – if using paid and unpaid breaks (break and lunch) in one break group.

Break Minutes – the length of the break. If the break rule is not satisfied through punching, then this is the number of minutes that will be deducted.

Pay Back Break Deduction / Pay Back Pay Type – the break minutes deducted are paid back using another pay type, e.g. Paid Lunch, which does not count towards overtime.

Paid Break Minutes – this number of minutes is paid back to the employee. When an employee is punched out, they will be reimbursed up to this number of minutes, but they will not be paid back time they did not take, e.g. a 15 minute paid break on a 10 minute punched break will calculate as if the employee did not punch out at all. It will NOT give the employee 5 minutes extra time.

Rounding Unit – the unit to round the punched break to.

Break Point – the point at which the punches break will move forward. For example, if the Rounding Unit is 15 and the Break Point is 8, then a 37 minute break is rounded to 30 minutes, while a 38 minute break is rounded to 45 minutes.

Minimum Break Pair Minutes – the break must be at least this number of minutes in length to be considered for this rule

Break Window

Break Window Type – this allows qualification of the break by requiring that the break be taken within a designated time window.

  • No Window – the break window rule is not used.
  • Offset From In Punch – the break window starts at the first punch plus the Minimum Offset Minutes, and ends at the last punch plus the Maximum Offset Minutes.
  • Offset From Schedule Start – the break window starts at the schedule start time plus the Minimum Offset Minutes, and ends at the schedule start time plus the Maximum Offset Minutes.
  • Time Window – the break must occur in the time window specified in Time Window Start and Time Window End.

Minimum Offset Minutes – see Break Window Type.

Maximum Offset Minutes – see Break Window Type.

Time Window Start – see Break Window Type.

Time Window End – see Break Window Type.

Applies To

Minimum / Maximum Employee Shift Count – the break only applies to employees based on their employee shift history shift count value.

Minimum / Maximum Employee Daily Hours – the break only applies to employees based on their employee shift history daily hours value.

Home Labor Levels

Qualifiers

Minimum Break Pair Minutes – the break length must be equal to or exceed this number of minutes to be considered for this break rule.

Maximum Break Pair Minutes – the break length cannot exceed this number of minutes to be considered for this rule.

Minimum Worked Minutes – the employee has to have worked this number of minutes to be considered for this break.

Maximum Worked Minutes – the employees cannot have exceeded this number of minutes to be considered for this break.

Calculation

Start Deducting At Minutes – the point at which an unpunched break starts to deduct.

Short Break Grace Minutes – this will only apply if the employee takes a break that is less than the Break Minutes setting. For example, if the Break Minutes setting is 30, and the Short Break Grace Minutes is 5, then a break that is from 25 to 29 minutes in length is calculated as if it was 30 minutes in length.

Long Break Grace Minutes – this will only apply if the employee takes a break that is greater than the Break Minutes setting. For example, if the Break Minutes setting is 30, and the Long Break Grace Minutes is 5, then a break that is from 31 to 35 minutes in length is calculated as if it was 30 minutes in length.

Short Break Grace Exception Minutes – if the break minutes taken are less than the Break Minutes, and greater than or equal to the Break Minutes minus the Short Break Grace Minutes setting, then the break will not generate a Short Break (SB) exception.

Long Break Grace Exception Minutes – if the break minutes taken are greater than the Break Minutes, and less than or equal to the Break Minutes plus the Long Break Grace Minutes setting, then the break will not generate a Long Break (LB) exception.
