Payroll Based Journal (PBJ) Licensing

The PBJ module was added to the SBV software in 2016. Here are some common questions along with the answers regarding the PBJ licensing and your invoice.

Question: Am I locked in to using the SBV software for my PBJ submissions?

Answer: No, not at all. We are not the only vendor providing PBJ file creation. Other vendors providing PBJ are EzPBJ, Ability and Prime Care.

Question: I already have the PBJ module in my software, why do I now need to purchase it?

Answer: SBV provided a free trial of their PBJ module to all clients for 2016 data. This was to allow you to determine if it is the best PBJ solution for your facility. If you wish to continue to use the PBJ module for 2017 data then you need to acquire a license.

Question: I thought that I had already licensed the PBJ module at the time that I became a client.

Answer: Your software license agreement will fall under one of 3 categories:

  1. There is no mention of the PBJ module but your license agreement will have wording such as New modules, if created, are automatically excluded from the product unless a new agreement is made between SBV and ...
  2. The PBJ module is listed under one of the modules that are NOT licensed
  3. The PBJ module is listed under one of the modules that is licensed. If your license agreement says this then you have been sent an invoice incorrectly. Please contact us to resolve this mistake.

Unless your contract explicitly states that you have licensed the PBJ module, you will need to purchase a license for the PBJ module to continue to use it for 2017 data.

Question: Is this a one time fee or is there a recurring fee?

Answer: Both. There is a one time fee and then a recurring annual fee due after 12 months. The annual fee due 1/1/18 will be the same amount as the one time fee shown on your invoice. For example, if your invoice is for $1,500 then your annual fee due on 1/1/18 will also be for $1,500.

Question: If I decide to use another vendor, what will happen with my software and invoice.

Answer: You will not be able to create a file for 2017 PBJ data until you have a PBJ license. Your software will continue to work as is but the PBJ specific parts of the software will stop displaying. If you choose to not license our PBJ module, your PBJ invoice will be voided on 2/1/16. You do not need to contact SBV.

Question: I want a discount because of (insert your reason here)?

Answer: We feel that our pricing is reasonable compared to other vendors. We encourage you to get pricing from other PBJ vendors to determine if we are competitive and then contact us to discuss pricing once you have quotes from other vendors.
